How long does a Bufo session last?+
About fifteen seconds to full onset, a peak of roughly five minutes, and essentially finished within fifteen to twenty. The disorientation afterwards can last an hour or two, and some guests feel scrambled for several days.
Does 9,750 feet change how you run Bufo?+
It changes who we clear more than how the session runs. Písac sits roughly two thousand feet below Cusco and you descend to reach us, so by the eighth morning most guests have a settled respiratory baseline rather than one still catching up. Resting oxygen saturation and blood pressure are still taken on the morning itself, supplemental oxygen is in the room, and a borderline file is a no rather than a maybe. The session is never held in the first days of the week.
Is your Bufo from a toad?+
No. We use synthetically sourced 5-MeO-DMT, molecularly identical to the compound in the secretion and precisely dosable. Milking stresses the animal and demand from retreat centers is damaging wild Incilius alvarius populations in the Sonoran Desert, several thousand miles from this valley.
Is Bufo a traditional Andean or Quechua medicine?+
No, and we will not imply otherwise. Incilius alvarius is a Sonoran Desert species with no place in Quechua or Shipibo practice and no history in the Andes. Bufo is the one thing we offer with no connection to where this house stands, and any center presenting it as ancient Andean lineage is inventing a heritage for it.
Why do you decline so many people?+
Because it integrates badly stacked on a first ayahuasca week. It is short, overwhelming, and usually leaves no narrative to work with, so guests still processing four ceremonies often cannot place it. Most weeks one or two of twelve guests are cleared, and some weeks nobody.
Is it dangerous?+
It carries real risk. It causes a sharp rise in blood pressure and heart rate, deaths have been reported, and combining it with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium risks serotonin syndrome. People can also become physically unmanageable at the peak, which is why you lie down first and one facilitator stays in contact throughout.
Can I stop it once it starts?+
No. Fifteen seconds after the inhale you are past any point of decision, and there is nothing to remove. That is the single biggest difference from Kambo, and the reason two people have to agree beforehand.
Can I take Bufo and travel home the same day?+
No, and we refuse sessions on transfer mornings for that reason. Leaving Písac means an hour of road climbing two thousand feet back to Cusco and then a flight out at 11,150 feet. That is not a journey to begin disoriented. The session sits on the morning after the fourth ceremony with the whole day left empty.
How far is a hospital?+
Twenty five minutes by road to the clinic at Calca and about an hour to a Cusco hospital we hold a standing arrangement with. That is the honest cost of being in the valley rather than the city. It is why the physician stays on site every night, why oxygen sits in the room during a session rather than in a cupboard, and why we clear fewer people for Bufo here than we would at eleven thousand feet with a hospital ten minutes away.
Does it cost extra?+
No. It is included in the $5,800 week for guests both leads clear, and being declined changes nothing about what you paid or what you receive.
